Euthanizing Sea Lions?

Let me preface this post with a few comments about myself. I’m not a vegetarian, an animal-rights-activist, or anti-authority. I order my steak medium-rare, and once, on a youthful summer day in southern California, I burned some ants with a magnifying glass. And I liked it.

With that said, here is a story I just don’t get.

Oregon Fish and Wildlife have been setting traps near the Bonneville Dam in an effort to catch protected Sea Lions that are eating endangered Chinook Salmon. One was caught this morning and is scheduled to be euthanized at a nearby facility. A spokesperson for the organization stated they’ve been ‘trying’ to find homes for animals they capture, but have been unsuccessful thus far.

I’m not a marine bioligist (I just play one on t.v.), but why not transport the animals back to the coast?  Wouldn’t this solution be less expensive and more humane? I mean, come on, they’re just going there for food. It’s not like these pesky ocean tigers are doing secret bungee jumps from the dam at night. They’re hungry and only hunting their prey as they’d do in the open water.

I sure hope the manager at Whole Foods doesn’t tie me up and take me out back one day while I’m grocery shopping. Should he set a false-floor near the Raisan Bran, I hope he’ll just drive me home instead of killing me.

Tired of overpriced drinks? Sneak it in...

Given the insane prices of drinks at sporting and music events, no one will blame you for sneaking in your own tasty beverage. And, when security rears its ugly head, you’d much rather not lose that “best man” flask your brother gave you at his wedding last summer. Sneak it in.

Just buy these travel shampoo bottles from your local drug store and fill them up with whatever your heart desires. Vodka, Gin, Tequila, RedBull, Yoohoo, Beer, Wine, Chicken Noodle soup. Whatever! They cost under a dollar, so you won’t feel bad pitching them after consumption.

Restoration Hardware used to sell these mini disposable flasks for just this, but I’m betting some negative PR is the real reason they’ve discontinued the product.

Update from Cut///Copy hints at their upcoming third album

“Dan spent the majority of 2009 re-creating the Blade Runner soundtrack on his recently acquired CS-80 synthesizer.
Note for note, arpeggio for arpeggio. Hopefully his interpretation of Vangelis’s masterpiece will eventually see the light of day.
He has also been busy re-establishing the Cutters Records empire by releasing records and hosting parties,
and occasionally rocking a fine Grizzly Adams beard.

Tim is still firmly stuck in the 90’s.
He interviewed seminal guitar band Pavement for Russh magazine
and he recently procured an original piece of Daniel Johnston artwork. It now hangs above his bed.

Mitchell has been spending his days establishing a tennis league for the indie rock community of Melbourne.
They even have special t-shirts with their name embodied on them. He tells me his serve is his biggest asset.
Feel free to contact him directly for membership.

Collectively however we have been camped out in a warehouse on the outskirts of Melbourne,
finishing writing and recording for album number 3. More on that very soon.

We’ll also be leaving Australia to join you for your respective summers playing a handful of festival and club dates,
previewing material from the forthcoming record, as well as rocking some old favorites (btw - “veteran act????!! - wtf).

Still chasing that perfect wave,
C//C
